Go-far Returns!

Holton Lee’s all terrain vehicle, the ‘GO-FAR’, has been out of action for some time, but thanks to the students and staff of the Motor Engineering Department of Weymouth College, the vehicle has been returned to Holton Lee in full working order, and is available again for visitors to use to explore the 350 acre Holton Lee estate.
The Go-far was manufactured in only small number, but designed specifically for disabled people to drive solo across the countryside. Its design features make it an easy vehicle for many users as it has very simple hand controls. There are no foot pedals, while a sliding seat enables easy movement from wheelchair into the vehicle.

Tim Gray, lecturer in Motor Engineering at Weymouth College who led the restoration project says the project is ideally suited to teaching students the basics of the drive and steering mechanisms featured in the ‘GO-FAR’.
With the Go-far now mechanically restored, as well as being available for visitors to use, will also be on display during the charity’s Summer Fair on 5th June at Holton Lee.

The Director of Holton Lee, Theresa Veith is seen in the photo, together with Tim Gray, lecturer, and George Morrice, a volunteer at Holton Lee, who initiated the restoration project.

Holton Lee Director Theresa Veith said ‘We are enormously grateful to the college and students for their time and expertise, so readily given, in bringing this vehicle back into use. It will give immense freedom and enjoyment to many of our guests over the coming Spring and Summer months!”
