Barn Care services suspended
After much deliberation the trustees of Holton Lee have made the decision to suspend the Barn respite care service to guests for the immediate future.
Care services were suspended at the Barn on 13th March 2010. The decision made by trustees to suspend services was not taken lightly but is the result of low occupancy rates since the barn re-opened in 2007, and the charity is no longer able to continue to subsidise these substantial losses. Whilst we consider this situation has been exacerbated by the economic downturn, it is also felt that the needs of service users have changed, which has contributed to lower occupancy levels, and that the facilities offered at the barn have not kept pace with these changes.
This suspension in operation will allow Holton Lee trustees the opportunity to review the current business model and to develop a strategy that is in line with the current needs of its service users, updating, revitalizing and investing in its current offer to allow us to re-launch in the future. As part of this process previous Barn guests will be consulted to get their views, opinions and ideas for future plans.
Although understandably disappointing news, this by no means implies that Holton Lee is closing or that our work is ceasing. We are continuing all other services as usual and will continue to promote opportunities for disabled people and access to the site and facilities.
